'The Tashkent Files' digs deep into Shastri's mysterious death

Vivek Agnihotri's upcoming film 'The Tashkent Files' trailer is out. The film chronicles the mysterious death of Indian former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who played a significant role in the nation's independence.

Mumbai: The makers of 'The Tashkent Files' have revealed the trailer of the film on Monday. It traces the journey to solve the mystery behind the death of the former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who played a critical role in India's independence.

The trailer gives a sneak peek into the mysterious death of the late PM's death which is still an unsolved puzzle till date. It puts a question mark on the unjustifiable circumstances leading to the freedom fighter's death.

In an earlier interview to a premier agency, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri said, “On January 10, 1966, Shastri had signed the Tashkent Agreement and hours later he died. A death mystery unsolved to date. Was it a heart attack or poison? The truth of the biggest cover up has been denied to his family and us."

The filmmaker also shared how Shastri's family members were denied a post-mortem after his death despite raising a request to the then prime minister Gulzarilal Nanda.

'The Tashkent Files' stars actors Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Pankaj Tripathi, Pallavi Joshi and Shweta Basu.

The film, directed and written by Vivek Agnihotri is produced by Pranay Chokshi, Haresh Patel, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek.

'The Tashkent Files' which emphasizes on a citizen's 'right to know the truth' is slated to hit the screens on April 12.
