SRK, PeeCee join COVID-19 relief concert, WHO thanks King Khan

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra were among the many celebrities who joined the virtual concert One World: Together At Home. The World World Health organisation expressed gratitude to SRK for extending his support towards the program that aims to stand in solidarity and appreciate the healthcare workers who are fighting the battle against the pandemic disease.

Mumbai: Indian actors including Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined the star-studded One World: Together At Home to celebrate healthcare workers fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.

Over 70 artists and celebrities from across the globe had joined the initiative, organised by WHO and Global Citizen, to thank and celebrate the healthcare workers fighting the pandemic.

Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom on Sunday thanked Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for joining the star-studded virtual concert One World: Together At Home.

During the show, Khan urged the viewers to take action to support the ones who are at risk by staying home. He also opened up about the coronavirus outbreak in India and delved into the plight faced by the people.

"India is facing one of its greatest challenges, in our history. With a population of over a billion citizens, the strength of COVID-19 is bound to have a negative impact on the country. Like, it is impacting the rest of the world too," Shah Rukh said in a video clip.

He added: "Battling this crisis is going to take its toll, and this is the time to take action. Right now, I'm working with a team of people to provide protective equipment, quarantine centres, food and essentials to patients, hospitals and homes. But to beat this worldwide pandemic, the world must come together."

"So find out how you can contact World and private sector leaders, and ask them to continue to contribute to WHO's Solidarity Response Fund, so they can help to continue the hardest of areas and people who desperately need it. India, planet earth, we are one world. I love you, stay strong," he continued.

Speaking about the challenges faced by the refugee camps all over the world, Priyanka added: "I have witnessed first hand the overcrowded and unlivable conditions in refugee camps... The camps need health care, clean water and sanitation to stand through the pandemic."

According to news reports, the virtual concert raised over USD 127 million for the relief efforts of COVID-19.

Some of the artists that were a part of the show are Elton John, Lizzo, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Celine Dion and the Rolling Stone.

The show was hosted by the most popular hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.
