Hyderabad: Shershaah, the biopic of late Captain Vikram Batra (PVC) is winning the hearts of the audience for two reasons. First, it is a heroic tale of the braveheart soldier, and second, how beautifully an endearing love story is woven into the narrative of a war film. Shershaah's writer, Sandeep Srivastava has revealed why and how he was encouraged to craft a nuanced romantic track in the film.
Batra was in love with Dimple Cheema, his MA English coursemate at Chandigarh's Panjab University is known. After he sacrificed his life on the battlefield, Dimple chose to spend the rest of her life in loving memories of Batra. Her decision seems like a big sacrifice to others. But for her, it's a choice.
When Sandeep first approached Dimple to understand her story, she was reluctant to meet in person but agreed to speak to him over the phone. Only after when the trust was built, Dimple met the writer and shared cherished memories of Batra that she dearly treasured all these years. Surprisingly, Dimple's memories of Batra stem from a time period that is little more than a month that they spent together.

In a recent interview, Sandeep has revealed that though Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema knew each other for four years the time that they spent together is just about 40 days. When asked about the criticism around Kiara's character and her screen space not being utilized properly, the screenwriter has said the team "have captured the essence of those 40 days, which means a lot to the wonderful lady(Dimple) whom I have a lot of respect. It is the essence of her feelings that is coming through the way Kiara has played the character, and that’s what’s really sticking to people."
