Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan, who is the son of actor Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has claimed that despite being 'insider' he too has been a victim of nepotism.

The general sense that the film and television industry does not care for its own -- unless you are an offspring of the industry - is not new. Saif, however, claims to prove it wrong as he admits having faced nepotism in the industry, despite being the son of the acclaimed actor who has also been the chief of the censor board.

Saif, in his conversation with a leading daily, has spoken about the inequality in film industry and said, "There is inequality in India that needs to be explored. Nepotism, favouritism and camps are different subjects. Even I have been a victim of nepotism but nobody speaks of that."

Earlier, the Omkara star had lashed out at the fake sympathy and concern that few members of the film industry are expressing post Sushant's departure.

"There are so many people who’ve made comments so quickly. And it just seems to me that people are somewhere gaining some mileage from this poor fellow’s tragedy, you know, whether it’s to show compassion or to show interest or to show some political stance. So many people are talking rubbish in this nonstop kind of barrage on social media and it’s just embarrassing, really, I think," said the actor who did a cameo appearance in Rajput's swan song, Dil Bechara.

Recalling shooting Dil Bechara with Sushant, the Dil Chahta Hai star had earlier said that he found Sushant very talented and intelligent.

"When I did my guest appearance in his Dil Bechara, I think he was quite happy with that. He was very nice to me and he said he wanted to come and have a drink and talk about various things, which never happened, which I feel bad about. Maybe I could have, you know, helped in some way or not… I don’t know. But after working with him, I quite liked him because he was nice. And then he told me he danced behind me as Shiamak’s dancer during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games (in 2006). And so I was congratulating him on how far he’d come, you know?" said Saif.

Dil Bechara, which also stars debutant Sanjana Sanghi opposite Sushant, will premiere on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar, on July 24.
