Mumbai: Actors Raveena Tandon and Kareena Kapoor Khan brought up the issue of ageism in Hindi cinema in the former's radio show titled, What Women Want.
Bashing the existing hypocrisy in the industry, the National Award-winning actor spoke about how the images of the heroines are moulded as a "bhabhi" figure once they get married.
During the discussion, Kareena stated that in Hollywood female actors from Helen Mirren to Meryl Streep are all playing lead roles in movies.
But in Bollywood, the scope of women playing the lead in films in their 40s has diminished to a certain extent, she said. Kareena further added, "not many people write roles for women" above the age of 40 to 45.
On the contrary, Raveena said: "This was the trend I think. There's this whole culture thing ke ek baar heroine ki shaadi ho jaati hai, she becomes like a bhabhi figure. So, she ceases to be the male fantasy."

Speaking about the changing trends, the National Film Award winner also expressed: "But now, I feel that the trend has changed. Even our audiences accept that it is just another job. This is work for us and I think that is a good thing which has come about."
"Whether it's your sister, whether it's Lolo, whether it's Kajol, whether it's me, whether it's Manisha or Tabu, whoever from our age group they are still doing such phenomenal work," praised Raveena.
"So, I think in fact now is a great time. Especially five years down the line, you'll see an even better time," she concluded.
