'Might hear about suicides in the music industry', warns Sonu Nigam

Mumbai: Prominent singer Sonu Nigam, who has delivered several hits in Bollywood, made an explosive confession saying that the world might next wake up to suicide news from the music industry soon.

Taking to social media, the 46-year-old singer warned about the "music mafias" in the industry.

He said: "The music industry has bigger mafias than the film industry."

"Only two companies in the music industry are powerful. They decide who would sing and who would not," he added.

Calling out big shot music labels for signing playback singer and composer who are associated with them, Sonu said that the "music mafia" has been destroying the careers of young and aspiring singers, lyricists and composers in Bollywood.

"I have seen the frustration in the eyes and voice of new singers, composers and lyricist. If they die, fingers will be raised at you… I’m done with this but please don’t torture the younger ones, don’t oppress them. They cry tears of blood. This isn’t a very good space. Try and step into their shoes. They need your help and kindness," Sonu added further.

Without naming Salman Khan in the video, Sonu slammed the superstar for his immoral activities. He said: "In my case, I’ve known of the same actor, who’s under scanner right now, asking not to give a particular song to me. He has done the same with Arijit Singh. So many of my songs got dubbed. I don’t ask for work. Yet, they call me, get me to record a song and then dub it, that’s funny. Now imagine, if they can do this with someone like me who’s been a part of the music industry since 1989, what can they do with the new talents."

"Even directors and producers are not happy because they aren’t allowed to make music of their choice. I meet so many directors who say we don’t want a particular song, but it is the music companies' demand," he added.

Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise has sparked a debate on Bollywood's nepotism and favouritism. In the wake of his death, Sonu's video directed towards the unhealthy work culture in the industry has created a stir on the internet.
