Hyderabad: Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu is being approached to play Lord Ram in the upcoming feature adaption of the mythological epic Ramayana. The 3D film starring Deepika Padukone as Sita is an ambitious project of producer Madhu Mantena who was looking for a big name from the South to play the part.
Besides Deepika's casting as Sita, the makers have reportedly locked Hrithik Roshan to play the role of Ravan while search for the main lead should apparently end with Mahesh Babu coming onboard as Ram.

Madhu Mantena wanted Prabhas to play Ram but Om Raut was quick enough to rope the Baahubali fame star in for his Adipurush which is also based on the epic Ramayana. Now the makers have reportedly approached Mahesh who has also liked the script and vision of the film. The actor, however, is yet to green signal the project.

According to a webloid report, Madhu feels that Mahesh has the innocence to pull off Shri Ram's character. The possibility of Mahesh being seen opposite Deepika in the film are high as Madhu has a connection with KWAAN, a talent agency that houses all three stars -- Hrithik, Deepika and Mahesh.
Talking about Mahesh's upcoming work, his next production venture is Major, based on the life of 2008 Mumbai attacks martyr Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Adivi Sesh portrays Unnikrishnan. The film also stars Sobhita Dhulipala.
