Hyderabad: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the leading lady of his three blockbuster films Deepika Padukone are apparently trying one upmanship over the other. The chemistry that the duo shared as actor and filmmaker is said to have turned off sync.
According to reports, it all began when SLB roped in Alia Bhatt and not Deepika for his upcoming venture Gangubai Kathiawadi. Later, when the filmmaker rejected helming Deepika's ambitious project, Draupadi, the alleged cold war between the two intensified.
Though Draupadi headlined by Deepika was announced in 2019 the makers are yet to find a director who can do justice to the epic tale. The one who came really close to directing the film was National Award-winning filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj but things did not materialise with him as well. Hence, Deepika felt Bhansali, who is known for helming period dramas would be the best choice for the project and offered him the film. But, to her surprise, the filmmaker politely turned down the offer as he preferred focusing on his dream projects like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Heera Mandi and Baiju Bawra.

The reason behind Deepika and SLB's punctured rapport is said to be she turning down few offers from her Bajirao Mastani director. SLB reportedly offered Deepika a dance number in Gangubai Kathiawadi, however, the actor denied the offer. Not only that, when SLB once again approached Deepika for a key role in Heera Mandi or a dance number in the web show, the actor refused it too.
Following the recent discord, SLB's dream project Baiju Bawra with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Deepika in lead roles seems a distant dream as of now.
