Mumbai: Bollywood's famous director Anurag Basu was born on May 8, 1970 in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh in a middle class family. His father Subrato Bose and mother Deepshikha Bose were a theater artist.
Anurag started his TV career with the serial Tara. After six months in the end of 1994, he was given full responsibility for directing about 712 episodes. Barfi director also worked in Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii Zindagii Kay which topped the TRPs at that time. Besides these, Anurag was also seen judging the second season of a dance reality show named Super Dancer.
Anurag directed the film Saya with Mahesh Bhatt early in his Bollywood career. He then directed many films like Murder, Gangster, Life In A Metro which did wonders at the box-office. Anurag has also directed some of the distinctive films like Barfi and Jagga Jasoos. His film Murder which released in 2004, is marked as one of his superhit films.
Anurag was directing the film Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 2004, when he came to know that he is suffering from acute promyelocytic leukemia—a type of blood cancer. However, he won the battle after combating for three years.
During the promotion of his film Barfi in 2012, when Anurag arrived to meet children in a cancer hospital, he said, "Ranbir often asks me how I have dealt with cancer, then I say that in fact cancer had to deal with me. It is very important to have such attitude. "
Reminiscing his 3 years of treatment, Basu once said to a leading portal, "I get very emotional remembering that time because during my treatment period, there were many children in the hospital who encouraged me to combat the severe disease."
Later in 2017, he was asked to give some life lessons to the cancer victims. "The first step to fight cancer is to be happy. When I was fighting this disease, I felt that 50 percent treatment of this disease is possible with medical treatment and we can cure the remaining 50 percent with will power," he said. Anurag suggested to set small targets to fight against such diseases.
The director married his girlfriend Tani Basu and has two daughters, Ishana Basu and Ahana Basu. Besides being a good director, he is a good father.
Anurag’s upcoming directorial is titled Ludo. He made an official announcement in December last year. The film was scheduled to get a release on April 24 this year, but, it has been postponed due to the outbreak of novel Coronavirus.
