The 'Piku' director's upcoming movie is eyeing for a 2020 release. Sircar who is eagerly waiting to work with Bachchan and Khurrana, says that the script perfectly fell in place.

'Gulabo Sitabo' gets a new release date

Mumbai: The release date for Soojit Sircar's upcoming film 'Gulabo Sitabo' has been postponed. The film is now set to hit the big screens on April 24, 2020.

Set in Lucknow, the quirky family comedy will star Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead roles.

The Rising Sun Films production was earlier expected to release on November 2019.

Jointly produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, the motion picture is written by Juhi Chaturvedi.

Confirming the new release date of the film, Rising Sun Films on Friday tweeted: "Ab #GulaboSitabo ki jodi aarahi hai April 24, 2020 ko."

Earlier, Sircar said, "Me and Juhi have been working on this script for quite some time...and as we all know, when Juhi comes up with a story it has her trademark quirk in it," adding that he was extremely excited to share the script with his dear friend and producer Ronnie Lahiri.

Sircar thought it would take some time to develop and proceed. "Everyone was so enthusiastic to do this script, that they figured their dates and here we are, planning to release it this year," he said.

An excited Sircar told, "After 'Piku' and 'Vicky Donor', I had been wanting to work with Mr. Bachchan and Ayushmann on an equally quirky script so this fell perfectly in place."

As for the film's title, the director said that the story is based in Lucknow and "Gulabo Sitabo is a fun colloquial metaphor used by the locals."
