FIR registered against Raveena, Farah, Bharti for hurting religious sentiments

Following a complaint filed in Amritsar, an FIR has been lodged against actress Raveena Tandon, stand-up comedian Bharti Singh and filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh: An FIR has been filed against Raveena Tandon, Bharti Singh and Farah Khan by Sukhjinder Gill, a member of the Catholic Church, on Friday for hurting religious sentiments of the Christian community.

Members of the Christian community staged peaceful protests in several parts of Punjab against actress Raveena, Farah and Bharti for hurting the religious sentiments in a TV show.

Christian protesters gathered in large numbers and staged demonstrations in Jalandhar and Gurdaspur town in Punjab.

The Punjab Police has registered a case against the three for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

However a day before, Raveen has sought an apology saying that if her comment has hurt anybody's feeling then she should be forgiven.

She tweeted: "I haven't said a word that can be interpreted as an insult to any religion. The three of us (Farah Khan, Bharti Singh and I) never intended to offend anyone, but in case we did, my most sincere apologies to those who were hurt."

Farah Khan also took to Twitter to seek an apology for unwantedly hurting religious sentiments.

She wrote: "I’m extremely saddened that some sentiments have been inadvertently hurt by a recent episode of my show. I respect all religions, n it would never be my intention 2disrespect any. On behalf of the entire team, Raveena Tandon, Bharti Singh and Myself.. we do sincerely apologise."

The case was registered following the Christian Morcha president Sonu Jafar filed a complaint in Ajnala town of Amritsar district.

He alleged that the stars while trying to pronounce the word 'Hallelujah' during a show, despised it which eventually has hurt the religious sentiments of Christians.

Following the incident, police had registered a case under Section 295-A of the IPC.
