Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh): Bollywood actor Asif Basra has committed suicide in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The body of 53-year-old Asif Basra has been found hanging in a rented house in McLeodganj, Dharamshala.
The police and the forensic team have reached the spot and started the investigation.
Asif lived with his foreigner lady friend in a rented house in Jogiwada area of McLeodganj. As of now, the reasons why Asif committed suicide have not been known.
He used his dog’s leash to hang himself
Asif had been living in McLeodganj for the past six years. He used to go to Mumbai to shoot for films in between. He came to McLeodganj in September after shooting the web series for the last time and since then he was residing in Jogiwada area.
It is being told that Asif committed suicide by hanging himself with his pet dog’s leash on Thursday.
Asif Basra has worked in more than 30 films.
SP Vimukt Ranjan confirmed the incident
Kangra SP Vimukt Ranjan told that Asif Basra committed suicide between 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. This information was given to the police over the phone. After which the police and forensic team reached the spot.
According to the police, prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. At present, the body has been sent to Tanda Medical College for postmortem.
The post-mortem of the body will be done on Friday, after which it will be handed over to the family. Asif had taken a house on lease, for which a two-year agreement was made.
Acted in more than 30 films
Asif Basra was last seen in the second season of Disney plus Hotstar's series 'Hostage'. Apart from this, he played an important role in Amazon Prime Video's series ‘Patal Lok’ released this year.
Asif Batra was a known face of Bollywood and he had worked in more than 30 Bollywood films. Apart from this, Asif also worked in the Hollywood film ‘Outsource’.
Asif has been active in films since 1998. He has done 'Vo' (1998), 'Black Friday' (2004), 'Jab We Met' (2007), 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' (2010), 'Krrish 3' (2013) and 'Hichki' (2018). He also worked in a web series called 'Patal Lok' in 2020.
Asif Basra was born on 27 July 1967 in Amravati, Maharashtra. His family lives in Maharashtra. Many Bollywood celebrities have expressed grief over his death.
