Fans go berserk as theatres refuse to run special shows of Bigil

As the Tamil Nadu government allowed special shows for Vijay starrer Bigil, fans gathered in huge numbers outside a theatre in Madurai celebrating their favourite star's latest release.

Krishnagiri: Several fans of Tamil superstar Vijay went on a rampage in the town in the early hears of Friday as the local theatres refused to run special shows of Bigil.

The Krishnagiri police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the situation, arresting 37 people for the same.

The fans said that despite the Tamil Nadu government's approval for running special shows of the Vijay-starrer film, three of the theatres in Krishnagiri refused to run the shows.

Agitated by theatres' management, fans protested outside the theatres, damaging flex banners stalled there. They even ransacked some shops and damaged drinking water tanks too, said the police.

Vijay's fans went on a rampage near a theatre in Krishnagiri Traffic island, breaking CCTV cameras near the traffic signal. They even destroyed banners from the nearby shops, also damaging the wooden stage specially made for the Diwali celebration.

Reportedly, the incident took place around 2:30 am. However, the situation was under control, Bandi Gangadhar, the district superintendent of police said.

Tamil Movie Bigil which marks Vijay-Atlee collaboration has raged controversies before its release. Although the movie opened to positive feedback from the fans, the controversy didn't end.

Then Tamil Nadu government initially refused to allow early special shows but later paved the way and issued a stipulation that the theatres will charge the fee set by the government.

The sports-action drama stars Vijay as a football coach. It is written and directed by Atlee and produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram under the banner AGS Entertainment. The flick also stars Nayanthara in the leading role.
