Mumbai: The return of B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharata on small screens was a rush of nostalgia for everyone. In an interview with ETV Bharat Gufi Paintal who featured the role of Shakuni expressed joy over it.
“I am very happy. It’s seems that the time has clocked back. People want to take my interviews. I feel that this type of serial never dies and will always hold an intact place in many hearts. The show will be very helpful during this lockdown period. It has the power to keep people glued to the story. If not the whole day, people will atleast spend 4-5 hours in their house.”
“It is highly appreciable that government has come up with this initiative to control the present scenario,” added the actor.
He also opened-up about the contemporary serials which are very artificial and melodramatic.
“Today’s serials are very artificial and gets extended for many days. The religious dramas that used to take place 30 years ago was more impactful and nice. “
The actor was in shock when he recalled the episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati where the Dabangg actor Sonakshi Sinha failed to answer a question related to the great epic Ramayana.
He said, “I know Shatrughan Sinha very well. His whole family is named after Ramayana’s characters. Being a child of that family, she didn’t know the answer. This is very saddening.”
He also revealed that he is writing a poem to spread awareness among people about the novel virus. Though Mumbai is facing severe condition, he admired government's lead.
Mahabharata used to dominate the television in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The epic aired on Doordarshan kept people glued to their TV sets. Everybody used to watch it together with their near and dear ones. Those who didn't have television used to visit neighbours to make sure they didn't miss a single episode.
