Curtain comes down on Dehradun's seven decades old Prabhat theatre

Dehradun: On Tuesday, curtains came down on Prabhat cinema hall which entertained people of Uttarakhand's capital for more than seven decades. The cinema house was scheduled to be closed on March 30, with actor Rishi Kapoor's hit film Bobby's show, but due to coronavirus outbreak, the administration decided to close down it before the scheduled date.

In 1973, when Rishi Kapoor made his debut as a lead with Bobby, the film got an enormous response. In those days, Bobby enthralled the cinegoers in Prabhat for 25 weeks. This is the reason why Tushar Nagalia, who is currently administration incharge of the Prabhat cinema house, had decided to screen Bobby yet again on March 30 before closing the cinema house. But unfortunately, this could not happen and the cinema house had to close down earlier in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The natives of Doon's apparently have fond memories attached to Prabhat, which will never see the dawn again!

In the year 1947, Prabhat cinema house on Chakrata road was started by the local businessman TC Nagalia. Back then, people used to come to watch movies with their friends and family with great enthusiasm. With the emergence of multiplexes and OTT platforms eyeing to increase their business in India, time is not far when single screen theatres will be virtually extinct.
