Court summons Akshaye Khanna and Section 375 makers

Mumbai: After an advocate has filed a petition, Pune civil court on Monday has issued a summon to actor Akshaye Khanna and the makers of the film.

The summon has been issued for allegedly showing the lawyers in a negative light.

Apart from the actor, the court has asked the producers Kumar Mangal Pathak and Abhishek Mangal Pathak to appear before the court on September 9, 2019.

The petitioner claimed that the film's trailer and the promo have portrayed the court's procedures in a wrong way.

If news reports are to be believed, the petitioner has also slammed the makers over a 'cross-questioning' scene in the film. The said scene visualised advocates taking cross-statements of a rape survivor and openly asking her objectionable questions in the courtroom.

Referring to the scene, the advocate said that "such cross-statements are never recorded in an open court but only in-camera".

Directed by Ajay Bahl, the film is based on Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code.

Besides Akshaye Khanna, the film also stars Richa, Meera Chopra, Rahul Bhat, Kruttika Desai, Shriswara Kumud Mishra and Atul Kulkarni in pivotal roles.

In the movie, Richa Chadha plays a public prosecutor fighting to get justice for her client, who claims she was raped by the on-screen director played by Rahul Bhat. Akshaye Khanna plays the role of a criminal lawyer Tarun Saluja who defends the accused in the court.
