Mumbai: Director Abhishek Verman's celluloid dream which released on April 17 has collected ₹ 21.60 cr. on its opening day. Made on a budget of around ₹ 80 cr. and with a screen count of 4000, 'Kalank' is one of the biggest releases of 2019. The film is performing better in multiplexes than single screens.
'Kalank' has garnered mixed reviews from the critics. According to buzz, what goes against the film with ace-production values is the cliched and overdramatic treatment of the story. However, the performances have saved this lengthy saga of love.
With a star-studded cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sanjay Dutt, this period drama set in the 1940s India promises an unforgettable journey. Interestingly, the film brings Sanjay and Madhuri, the iconic pair from 90s, after a gap of 22 years.
'Kalank' was originally conceptualised about 15 years ago by Late Yash Johar and his son Karan.
Though there are no significant releases in Hindi, 'Kalank' will enjoy a good window of nine days before it will face tough competition from Hollywood giant 'Avengers: Endgame' which hits the theaters on April 26.
