Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana's gay rom-com Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan outshines Vicky Kaushal-starrer horror drama Bhoot: The Haunted Ship if the early box office results are anything to go by.

According to trade reports, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan fared very well on Day 1. So far, the film is getting a great response from Delhi-NCR and Punjab while the Mumbai market is picking up. Ayushmann Khurrana's brand and partial holiday on Maha Shivratri apparently contributed to the film getting a good opening.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has collected ₹ 9.55 cr on its first day, which is a little less than Ayushmann's last release Bala that opened to ₹ 10.15 cr.

Meanwhile, Vicky's Bhoot: The Haunted Ship which was released on the same day, has recorded a business of ₹ 5.10 cr at the ticket windows.

In terms of the opening, the horror drama comes at the third place when compared to Vicky's significant releases.

The trade pundits feel that the film has opened on expected lines. However, there is also an opinion that it should’ve opened to higher numbers since the horror genre has its loyal audience in mass pockets and being a film backed by Dharma Production.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan grabbed eyeballs from the day it was announced because of its subject and Ayushmann being part of it. Vicky's Bhoot: The Haunted Ship too had gathered ground since the film happens to be the first horror coming from Karan Johar's banner Dharma Productions which is known for making quintessential Bollywood entertainers.

Now, it would be interesting to see how these two films hit the screens on the same day fare at the box office.
