Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has been conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today. He is feted with the highest honour of the film industry by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Mumbai: Bollywood's Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke award on Sunday.

The prestigious award has been conferred to the actor by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The 77-year-old actor has received the highest honour of the film industry for his outstanding contribution to the world of cinema.

The actor was accompanied by his wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan at the prestigious award ceremony.

Elated upon receiving the prestigious honour, senior Bachchan expressed: "I still have some work left which I need to complete."

Earlier, the actor had declared on social media that due to poor health condition he was unable to attend the National Film Awards ceremony.

The announcement for the recipient of this year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award came early in September as Union Minister Prakash Javadekar declared the news on Twitter.

He wrote: "The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for Dadasahab Phalke Award. The entire country and the international community is happy. My heartiest congratulations to him."

The prestigious award is named after the father of Indian cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, which was instituted in 1969.

Bachchan is a recipient of four National Film Awards for his roles in Agneepath, Black, Paa and Piku.

Earlier, the legendary actor was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian honour, in 2015.

On the work front, the actor was last seen onscreen in Badla. He made his acting debut in 1969 with Saat Hindustani.
