Flood relief: Akshay Kumar pledges 1 crore each to Assam, Bihar

After pledging Rs 25 crore to the PM CARES Fund in March this year to help the country deal with the COVID-19 crisis, Akshay Kumar has once again come forward, this time to help Bihar and Assam during floods. The actor has decided to contribute Rs one crore each to Bihar and Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help them overcome the current flood situation in their respective districts.

Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar who never fails to extend support for a cause or coming forward to help the people of his country and offer aid to areas hit by natural calamities, has once again announced a major plea. The actor has decided to contribute Rs 1 crore each to Bihar and Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help them overcome the current flood situation in their respective districts.

A source told a leading portal, "On Thursday, Akshay Kumar spoke to CMs of Bihar and Assam and pledged a sum of Rs 1 crore each at a time when these areas are affected by the natural calamity. Both the Chief Ministers have expressed gratitude and appreciated his gesture that amid so much negativity all around, he could think of the betterment of these states."

Priyanka Chopra and husband Nick Jonas too made contributions to the Assam flood relief.

She tweeted, ''While we are all still dealing with the effects of the global pandemic, the Indian state of Assam has been grappling with another major crisis. It has been devastated by floods triggered by heavy monsoon showers affecting the lives of millions. The impact on life and land/property is unimaginable. The rapidly rising water level has also flooded the Kaziranga National Park, one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay will be seen next in BellBottom. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi.
