Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has been roped in for playing a short in length but powerful role in ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial venture Gangubai Kathiawadi headlined by Alia Bhatt.
Ajay and SLB had almost come together in Bajirao Mastani had the actor not declined the offer since period drama Tanhaji was demanding his attention as actor and co-producer. The Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam duo has finally reunited after more than two decades when Ajay agreed to play a special role in SLB's Gangubai Kathiawadi. While his role is short when it comes to screen time but the impact it carries in terms of narration is apparently immense.

According to reports, Ajay has given his nod to the director’s request of doing a very special cameo appearance. The 51-year-old actor is said to be playing a real-life underworld don in the film. A webloid report has described Ajay's role as "short and powerful."
In the film that revolves around a brothel owner and matriarch, Alia will be seen playing a mafia queen who was also known as The Madame Of Kamathipura. Gangubai Kathiawadi is said to be based on The Mafia Queens of Mumbai book, which is written by Hussain Zaidi with original research done by Jane Borges.
