New Delhi: Two men, who were members of a gang that supplied weapons to criminals in the Delhi-National Capital Region, have been arrested, police said Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Suraj (23) and Roop Ram (26), they said.
On April 29, police received information that a member of the Nandu gang would come to Khatu Shyam Chowk in Chawla to meet one of his associates. Based on the tip-off, Suraj was arrested, police said.
Ram, an arms supplier, was arrested from his house in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district on information provided by Suraj, police said.
One country-made pistol and two live cartridges, which were procured by Ram for selling to criminals, were recovered from his house, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, Anto Alphonse said.
The seized arms and ammunition were purchased at low prices from illegal units based in western UP, he said. The gang has supplied several pistols to various criminals in Delhi-NCR, the officer said.
Suraj, a sharpshooter of the gang, was named in an attempt to murder case at the Kapashera police station last year. He had allegedly shot at a man, the DCP said. He was arrested in the case and was lodged at the Tihar jail.
The officer said after releasing on bail, he procured illegal firearms and resumed criminal activities.
He was tasked to eliminate a rival gang member for which he was planning and coordinating with other members of his gang but was arrested, he said.
