Sivaganga: A security guard shot a gang member in the leg when he entered the Canara Bank with three others in a bid to kill a man at Manamadurai in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Chinnanehru (40), the security guard of the bank, opened fire on Tamilselvan of Pitchanendhal. He was later rushed to the Manmadurai Government Hospital for treatment, police said.
The incident took place when a man identified as Thangamani (34) was walking near the Canara Bank branch at Manamadurai along with his friend Ganesh from Tiruppachetti.
Thangamani was one of the accused in the murder of Saravanan and had recently come out of jail on bail, police said.
The four-member gang had planned to kill him in order to take revenge. On spotting them, Thangamani attempted to escape but they began to hack him. Then he rushed into the bank to escape from them. The gang members followed him inside and continued to attack him. However, his friend Ganesh tried to stop them but failed.
Meanwhile, the security guard shot Tamilselvan in the leg with his service double barrel gun to stop them.
The Manamadurai police later arrested all the three member of Tamilselvan's gang.
Thangamani, Ganesh and Tamilselvan, who were injured in the shooting, were admitted to Sivaganga Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The Manamadurai police have filed a case and an investigation in the case is underway.
