Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand): The 17-year-old girl of Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh, who was raped by her neighbour on April 30, succumbed to her injuries, here at STG Hospital on Thursday evening.
While the family members of the victim have demanded the state government that the accused to be punished as soon as possible by creating a fast track court.
The victim, a student of class 10, immolated herself on the same day, following which she was undergoing treatment at Haldwani.
According to sources, the victim was rushed to STG Hospital after she locked herself and immolated by pouring kerosene at her residence in Muansiyari town.
The accused, identified as Nathu Ram, 60, who is the neighbour of the victim, allegedly outraged her modesty on April 30, sources said.
The victim also alleged that accused had threatened her not to reveal anything about the crime, but she couldn't hold it any longer when her grandmother confronted her. She narrated the whole act to her before setting herself on fire the same day, sources added.
The rape victim died on Thursday during treatment at STG hospital after fighting for her life for 22 days. Later, police have sent the body for post mortem.
Following the death of the minor, the family of her have demanded to the Uttarakhand state government that the accused to be punished as soon as possible by a fast track court trial.
On the basis of the complaint, Nathu Ram was arrested by Pithoragarh police after booking him under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty), 341 (wrongful restraint), section-342 (wrongful confinement), section-506 (criminal intimidation) and sections- 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
