Hapur (Uttar Pradesh): The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday busted an arms smuggling racket in Hapur and apprehended a person in connection with it.
The accused person has been identified as Javed of the same locality.
Acting on intelligence input about an arms consignment, a special team of ATS conducted a raid and apprehended Javed with firearms.
According to sources, some Sophisticated Automatic Pistols, magazines and ammunition were recovered from his possession. The ATS sleuths have seized the mobile phone of him and also detained a friend of Javed for interrogation, sources said.
During the interrogation, it was ascertained that the accused usually comes to several places in Uttar Pradesh to deliver the arms and ammunition. Parts of weapons were being re-assembled in his stone factory in Hapur.
The accused, Javed has been taken to Noida for further interrogation and further investigation is underway. The ATS has also launched efforts to nab others connected with Javed, sources added.
