A 15-year-old girl was raped and murdered in her own backyard by her neighbour on Saturday evening in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam district. The accused was arrested under the POCSO Act, 2012 by Thiruvengadu police.

Nagapattinam: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was murdered after being sexually assaulted in her own backyard on Saturday evening.

According to sources, she would regularly go to the backyard of her residence after returning from school to tend cattle.

However on Saturday, when she did not return on time, her parents searched for her and found her body in the backyard.

“When they got there they found the girl unconscious. She had injuries on her neck, head, and nose. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead,” said Police.

Later, her father lodged a complaint in the Thiruvengadu police station.

During the investigation, the police found that her neighbour Kalyanasundaram (30) had raped the schoolgirl and strangled her to death. He was arrested by Thiruvengadu police under POCSO Act 2012.

The victim (15) was studying in the 10th standard in Government higher secondary school at Seerkazhi.
