Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New York on Tuesday (around 10 pm IST) on the first leg of his maiden state visit to the US during which he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters and hold bilateral talks with President Joe Biden in Washington.
PM Modi arrives in US on his maiden state visit

New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New York on Tuesday (around 10 pm IST) on the first leg of his maiden state visit to the US during which he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters and hold bilateral talks with President Joe Biden in Washington.

Modi will be in the US from June 21-24. He was invited by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who will host him at a state dinner on June 22. The visit includes an address by the prime minister to the joint session of the US Congress on June 22.

  • Second day programme-

    1. PM Modi has a series of engagements lined up for him in New York and Washington on the second day of his state visit to the US. Here is the list of events he will attend on Wednesday:
    2. Modi will lead the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the UN headquarters and will later depart for Washington DC.
    3. On arrival in Washington, PM Modi will be briefed Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.
    4. Modi will attend a cultural event at Freedom Plaza.
    5. He will proceed to Joint Base Andrews, Washington DC.
    6. Modi will address 'Skilling for Future Event' at National Science Foundation. US First Lady Jill Biden will join Modi for a visit to the Foundation.
    7. PM Modi has business meetings lined up.
    8. A media preview for state dinner will be hosted by First Lady.
    9. US President Joe Biden and First Lady will receive Prime Minister Modi at the White House. Modi will have a private engagement there.

    Third day of State visit- On June 22, Modi will address a joint session of the US Congress at the invitation of the Congressional leadership. "Strong people-to-people linkages have been instrumental in developing the trust between our countries. I look forward to meeting the vibrant Indian-American community that represents the best of our societies," Modi said.

    "I will also meet some of the leading CEOs to discuss opportunities for elevating our trade and investment relationship and for building resilient global supply chains," Modi said. Modi will also meet business leaders, interact with the Indian community and meet thought leaders from different walks of life. "We seek to deepen India-USA ties in key sectors like trade, commerce, innovation, technology and other such areas," he said.

    The US is India's largest trade partner in goods and services, and the two countries collaborate closely in the fields of science and technology, education, health, defence and security, the prime minister said. The initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies has added new dimensions and widened collaboration in defence industrial cooperation, space, telecom, quantum, artificial intelligence and biotech sectors, he added.
