Lahore: Khalistan Commando Force leader Paramjit Singh Panjwar was gunned down in Pakistan's Lahore in Sunflower Society Johar Town on Saturday morning, according to sources. The 41-year-old Paramjit was wanted for reviving the Sikh insurgency, conspiracy, murder and smuggling arms. He is also wanted for the murder of former Army Chief General AS Vaidya and the country's biggest bank robbery in Ludhiana.

Panjwar's two bodyguards were also killed by the attackers. Pramjit Singh was born in Punjab's Panjwar near Tarn Taran. In 1986, he joined the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF). Until 1986, he worked as an employee at Central Cooperative Bank in Sohal. KCF commander and Pramjit's cousin, Labh Singh was a major influence on him.

After the elimination of its commander, Labh Singh, Paramjit took charge of KCF in 1990 and left for Pakistan. Paramjit kept the KCF alive by raising funds through cross-border heroin trafficking with the help of top Punjab smugglers like Pargat Singh Narli and Bhola Thanthian. It is learnt that Paramjit had stayed in Lahore and his wife and children relocated to Germany. However, at least 10 FIRs have been registered against Paramjit from 1989 to 1990, including seven counts of murder and two under TADA. The objective of KFC was to consolidate all the secessionist Khalistani militant groups and to attain its goal of forming a Sikh homeland.
