Baghouz: SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) fighters resumed their offensive against the last pocket held by the Islamic State group (IS) in the eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour, near the Iraqi border.
The operation was launched after a deadline for IS gunmen to surrender in the besieged village of Baghouz expired, according to a spokesman for the Kurdish-led SDF.
On Monday the SDF said there were still IS militants in Baghouz, mainly hiding in underground tunnels and that they had made "limited advances" in the latest push on the last remaining area held by the extremists in Syria.
