The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that HTS and other insurgent groups had withdrawn from Khan Sheikhoun, a town south of Baneen.

Following the capture of Khan Sheikhoun, Syrian troops are expected to move north towards Maaret al-Numan, another town on the highway heading towards Idlib.

Opposition groups also alleged intense bombardment in the rebel-held town of Jisr al-Shughour on the southwestern edge of Idlib on Tuesday.
