Trump: US, Pakistan 'never been closer' than now

Davos: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he and the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and their two countries are closer than ever before.

During a bilateral meeting with PM Khan, while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Trump said, "we've never been closer with Pakistan than we are right now. And that's a big statement, although I wouldn't say at all times we were close as a country."

"We are very close right now because of the relationship that we have. So it's very important," Trump said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Khan told reporters that Afghanistan and India were high priorities for their discussions.

"We are on the same page both of our sides are interested in peace there and an orderly transition in Afghanistan with talks with the Taliban and the government."

President Trump also told reporters that he hoped the US and European Union could make progress on a new trade deal.
