Moscow: A Russian priest who violently performed the baptism of a one-year-old baby was banned for one year as the incident sparked anger across Russia.
According to the information, Father Foty of Marineburg Intercessional Church in Gatchina forcefully tried to dip the baby's head in a small font.
The mother named Anastasiya tried to take away her baby but was unsuccessful as the priest was preventing her from intervening saying that people did not know the lord's prayer.
She said, "The baby was screaming, trying to wriggle away. I got frightened and ran up, started to take him back."
The child suffered bruises and was nearly killed due to the traumatic ceremony.
Somehow the father tried to justify his actions saying that people who are far away from church life cannot understand the rites of the faith.
Furthermore, the violent ceremony called the attention of Moscow church authorities and Hieromonk Gennady of the Moscow Patriarchate's department tagged it as madness.
The Gatchina Diocese has expressed remorse and banned the priest from performing any ministerial duties and giving blessings.
