Police officers stood guard at both buildings.

It came as US and EU lawmakers called on the demonstrators to refrain from violence, in the aftermath of clashes over the weekend.

The opposition has been holding demonstrations since mid-February, accusing government officials of corruption and of stealing votes in the parliamentary election two years ago.

They are demanding a transitory government and an early election.
