Eiffel Tower reopens after longest closure since WWII

Eiffel Tower has reopened for visitors with crowd control measures in place. Tourists will have access to the first and second floors by staircase because elevators to the top are out of service for now.

Paris: After 104 days, the longest closure of the Eiffel Tower since World War II, the Paris landmark reopened on Thursday.

Tourists and locals visited the sight on the first day of opening, welcomed by a mascot and some music.

The 324-meter (1,063-feet) tall wrought-iron tower won't immediately welcome visitors the way it did before the country went into lockdown in March.

Only a limited number of people will be allowed in.

Elevators to the top are out of service for now, and only the first and second floors will be accessible to the public by staircase.

Everyone over 11 years old will be required to wear face masks with crowd control measures in place.
