Marmore Waterfalls: Romans created the highest man-made waterfall 'Marmore' located in the central Italian city of Terni, with its total height of 165 m (541 feet) on the Nera river.
Marmore's boarding area is the highest, that makes it the most beautiful and unique. Adventurers pummel down three cascaded levels for 165 meters (180 yards). The biggest astonishment is while going down to the river because when you are up it is so hot and as you get down there and everything is cool.

That's why visitors are provided with a thorough safety briefing and with helmets, life-jackets, wet-suits, and protections. White water rapids send their dinghy flying several meters downstream. For enthusiasts hydro-speed boards – small individual soft boards are also available. The Velino river is a source of Marmore, which follows through Piediluco lake near the community of Marmore. Then it pours into the valley and joins the river Nera. An employee opens the barriers blocking the Velino river twice a day, allowing the waterfalls to be fed into the Nera river.Until the 80's Nera was providing water to an important industrial area of Terni. This led to mounting rubbish, polluting the area's waters.Marmore's guide and manager, Camillo Dall'Oglio said, "Between the 80s and 90s, my father Pietro and my uncle Giovanni Dall'Oglio, came here to the Marmore waterfalls. They used to be extreme river sports enthusiasts in the 70s. They realized that this amazing spot was not appreciated and nobody was giving it the value it deserved."Dall'Oglio said that it took two years for his father and uncle to clean up the banks of the river and create paths and trails around the waterfalls. From kayaking to white river rafting, the Dall'Oglio family made a green business out of their passion.
