Wang said China was willing to cooperate with the US to control of the coronavirus and improve the relations that have been deteriorating since the outbreak of the pandemic, but that China would safeguard its sovereignty, territory, interests, and dignity. He warned that some US political forces were hijacking China-US relations in an attempt to push the relations to the so-called 'New Cold War'.

Beijing: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi says any lawsuits brought against China over the COVID-19 have zero factual bases in law or international precedence.

Wang told reporters at a news conference on Sunday that China was a victim of the global pandemic alongside other countries and had reached out to assist other governments in need.

“To our regret, in addition to the raging of the new coronavirus, a political virus is also spreading in the US which is to take every chance to attack and discredit China," Wang said.

“Some US politicians, heedless of basic facts, have fabricated too many lies and plotted too many conspiracies,” he said.

"Raising such lawsuits tramples on the international rule of law and abandons the human conscience. It’s untrue, unjustifiable, and illegal."

Those who would bring such litigation against China are living in a daydream and will humiliate themselves, Wang said.

He also called on Washington to work with Beijing to build a coordinated, cooperative, and stable China-US relationship.

He warned that some US political forces were hijacking China-US relations.

"China has no intention to change the US or replace the position of the US, while it is impossible for the US to change China at its wishful thinking."

"Now we must be vigilant against the fact that some US political forces are hijacking the bilateral relations in an attempt to push the relations to the so-called 'New Cold War'," Wang said.
