Sydney: Firefighters continue to battle blazes raging across the Australian state of New South Wales.
There were six fires at the emergency level on Friday afternoon, including the huge 250,000-hectare bushfire at Gospers Mountain, northwest of Sydney, which has joined up with the neighbouring Little L Complex and Paddock Run blazes.
New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said smoke from the fires was drifting all the way to New Zealand and was being captured by satellite imagery.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said Friday that there were 90 fires burning throughout New South Wales and about 40 fires are uncontained.
Six people have died so far this fire season and more than 680 homes have been lost, local media reported.
Crews have come from interstate as well as New Zealand and Canada to help fight the fires.
A team from the United States will arrive on Saturday.
