Tokyo: At least one person was killed and 40 others were injured in Tokyo after the powerful typhoon Faxai hit Japan on Monday, it also affected hundreds of thousands of rush-hour commuters.
As per the media reports, the police said that the victim was a woman in her 50s in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward. A security camera captured her being blown off her feet and into a wall which killed her on the spot.
East Japan Railway Company suspended all lines in the greater Tokyo area as Faxai made landfall near the city of Chiba shortly before 5am as one of the strongest typhoons.
The company resumed some services later in the morning with major stations swamped by commuters.
The typhoon also caused a tall fence surrounding of a golf driving range to collapse and land on residences in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, left a woman in her 20s with serious injuries.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), winds up to 209 kph were reported at Kozu Island, Chiba, and Tokyo's Haneda airport.
Many flights departing and arriving at Haneda airport were cancelled since Sunday evening.
In Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, some 9,20,000 households experienced temporary power cuts, according to Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc.
The power outage forced a Sony Corporation unit to suspend operations of a plant in Kisarazu where it produces the PlayStation 4.
