Thai authorities raid floating home set up by US man

A floating home in Andaman Sea was raided by the Thai authorities. An American man and his Thai partner were living in the small structure anchored outside Thailand's territorial waters to promote the concept of seasteading.

Phuket: Thai authorities have raided a floating home in the Andaman Sea belonging to an American man and his Thai partner who sought to be pioneers in the seasteading movement.

Seasteading promotes living in international waters to be free of any nation's laws.

Thailand's navy claims they endangered national sovereignty, an offence punishable by life imprisonment or death.

The Thai Navy filed the complaint on Saturday with police in the southern resort island of Phuket.

Chad Andrew Elwartowski and Supranee Thepdet had been living part-time in a small structure anchored outside Thailand's territorial waters, about 22 kilometres from shore.
