New Delhi: Amid the ongoing Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's four-day visit to India, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) counter-terrorism wing on Thursday arrested three Islamist militants, one of whom had close ties with Osama Bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar.
An official said that one of the arrested militant, Atiqullah alias Asadullah alias Zulfiqar was the Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami's (HUJI) organising secretary and closely operated with its former chief Mufti Abdul Hannan who has been booked for an attempted assassination of Sheikh Hasina.
Atiqullah was close to global terrorist and Al Qaida supremo Osama Bin Laden and Taliban chief Mullah Omar.
Bangladesh's officials said that he had attended several meetings with Laden and Omar in Pakistan and had close links with ISI and Pakistan Army officials.
