Seoul: The relation between South Korea and US is somewhat strained over America's stand on North Korea's nuclear policy, a North Korean news website says.
The website holds US government responsible for the escalating tensions between US and South Korea, as US is pressurising the S. Korean authorities to adjust the inter- Korean reconciliation process along with the denuclearisation policy.
US is supposedly thinking that the S. Korean government is softening its hitherto held stand against its hostile neighbour by warming up to N. Korea which is not allowing them to progress further with denuclearisation policy. In the past one year both the Koreas have taken steps to bring their countries closer to each other.
US is insisting that S. Korea stick to the main goal but they are worried about the inter-Korean relations which they fear may prove to be the main blockade for denuclearisation.
During an annual Parliamentary audit, South Korea's Foreign Minister said that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo frowned on inter- Korean military agreement.
Though, it has always extended its support to US led international sanctions but S Korea is also considering to lift 2010 trade and investment ban which was slapped on Pyongyang following a deadly attack on S. Korean warship.
Pyongyang has repeatedly insisted that the removal of penalties will help spur economic growth, whereas Washington has reaffirmed that sanctions will not be removed till the communist country completely stopped its nuclear weapons programme.
