Beijing: China on Wednesday commented on tensions at its border with India in Eastern Ladakh, calling the situation stable and controllable following reports that China has moved some 5,000 troops to various points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that relevant issues in the region in northeastern Kashmir, which has seen occasional border skirmishes in the past, could be resolved through dialogue and consultation.

Zhao also commented on US reactions to proposed new national security legislation in Hong Kong, saying that it was an internal affair, adding that if there is anyone bent on harming China's interests, China will have to take all necessary measures to fight back.

This followed remarks by US President Donald Trump who said he was working on a response, but declined to give details.

Trump is displeased with China’s efforts and that it’s hard to see how Hong Kong can remain a financial hub if China takes over, said White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Tuesday. She declined to elaborate.

The bill in question would bypass Hong Kong’s legislature and could allow mainland agencies to be set up in the city, sparking concern that Chinese agents could arbitrarily arrest people for activities deemed to be pro-democracy.

Zhao stressed that the Chinese government is determined in implementing the 'one country, two systems' policy, while pro-democracy supporters maintain that the proposal goes against the nature of the one country, two systems framework that promises Hong Kong freedoms not found in mainland China.
