Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Seoul Peace Prize today. He is the first Indian to receive the Prize.

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to South Korea, will receive Seoul Peace Prize Friday.

Addressing Indian expats in Seoul, Modi said, "I will receive the prize on behalf of the 130 crore Indians and three crore Indians living in other nations."

PM Modi will be the first Indian to receive the award today.

In order to commemorate the grand success of the 24th Summer Olympic Games held in Seoul in 1988, the Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990. It is awarded every two years and carries a cash component . The 1988 event witnessed the participation of 160 nations across the world , creating harmony and friendship.

A nominating group comprising 300 Korean nationals and 800 international members select the awardee.

The awardee receives honorarium of USD 200,000, a diploma and a plaque.
