Islamabad: In a major blow to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the country's National Accountability Bureau on Thursday arrested former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi over his involvement in a corruption scandal in Lahore.
Abbasi is accused of illegally awarding the Liquefied Natural Gas terminal contracts worth Rs 220 billion to a company in which he was shareholder himself.
The PML-N leader was on his way to Lahore to attend a press conference when he was arrested.
Abbasi is Pakistan's third high-profile politician to be arrested after Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari.
Abbasi served as prime minister from August 2017 to May 2018.
