Kathmandu: Amid the ongoing border dispute between New Delhi and Kathmandu, Nepal's Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli has triggered a new row saying meetings are being held in India to topple his government.

During a gathering at his residence on Sunday, Oli said that his government enjoys the majority in Parliament and the ouster plans wouldn't succeed.

“There is news coming from Delhi about this. Look at the meetings being organised in India against Nepal's decision to amend the Constitution to place the revised map of Nepal in the national emblem,” Oli said.

Earlier, reports had emerged about the growing differences between Oli and Nepal Communist Party's (NCP) executive chairman Pushp Kamal Dahal.

Prachand has been criticising Oli's anti-India moves.

The India-Nepal bilateral ties came under strain after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated an 80-km-long strategically crucial road connecting the Lipulekh pass with Dharchula in Uttarakhand on May 8.

Kathmandu reacted sharply to the inauguration of the road claiming that it passed through Nepalese territory. New Delhi rejected the claim asserting that the road lies completely within its territory.

Oli has faced criticism within his party for skipping the first and the second day of the Standing Committee meetings held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Baluwatar. He attended the meeting on Saturday, but briefly. His aides said that Oli could not attend the earlier meetings due to his other busy schedule and health reason.

Prime Minister Oli briefly attended Saturday's meeting and left the venue, citing health reason, the sources said, adding that he did not speak at the meeting.

Oli's absence in the first two days of the meetings showed the growing differences between him and party's executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda", a senior NCP leader said on condition of anonymity.

Prachanda has time and again spoke about the lack of coordination between the government and the party and he was pressing for one-man one position system to be followed by the NCP.

Prime Minister Oli has turned deaf ear towards Prachanda's advice to form an all-party committee to monitor the country's COVID-19 situation and the government's strategy to contain it.
