Islamabad: Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said that former prime minister Manmohan Singh had written him a letter saying that he would come as an ordinary man, not as a chief guest on the inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor.
In an interview to a Pakistani news channel, Qureshi said, "I had invited former PM of India Manmohan Singh. I'm thankful to him, he wrote me a letter and said, 'I'll come but not as a chief guest but an ordinary man.' We'll welcome him even if he comes as an ordinary man."
The Kartarpur corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district in Punjab and facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which is located in Pakistan's Narowal district across the Ravi river.
The corridor will be thrown open to pilgrims in November this year to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
In a major initiative last November, both India and Pakistan had agreed to set up the Kartarpur corridor.
