Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said he would have taken "immediate steps" had he known intelligence agencies had warned of a possible attack.
Sirisena made the comments on Tuesday, a day after officials disclosed that warnings had been received weeks ago of the possibility of an attack by the radical Muslim group National Thowfeek Jamaath.
The Islamic State group has since claimed to have identified the attackers who carried out the Sri Lanka Easter suicide bombings after earlier asserting it was responsible for the assault that killed over 320 people.
