Global COVID-19 tracker

The overall number of global coronavirus cases was nearing the 21 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 867,000. The US accounted for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 6,113,160 and 185,704 respectively. Brazil came in second place with 3,997,865 infections and 123,780 deaths.

Hyderabad: The coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 2,61,77,603 and killed over 8,67,347 people across the world. More than 18,442,307 people have recovered so far.

China has gone weeks without new cases of local infection and on Thursday recorded 11 cases brought from outside the country.

China has recorded a total of 4,634 deaths from COVID-19 among 85,077 cases since the virus was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, sparking the global pandemic.

South Korea reported 195 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, raising the total number of infections to 20,644.

The daily caseload fell below 200 in 17 days, but it has continued to grow in triple digits since August 14 due to cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province linked to church services and a massive rally held on August 15.

Of the new cases, 69 were Seoul residents and 64 from Gyeonggi province.

The country also reported three more fatalities, taking the death toll to 329.

WHO wants to see children returning to school and people going back to work, but at the same time, no country can just pretend that the global COVID-19 pandemic is over.
