Beijing: The death toll due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in China has risen to 2,943, authorities said on Tuesday, while the number of confirmed cases has reached 80,151.
Chinese health authorities reported 125 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 31 deaths on the Chinese mainland, Xinhua reported. All the deaths were in Hubei Province, according to the National Health Commission.
Until midnight, the overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 80,151, including 30,004 patients who were still being treated, 47,204 patients who had been discharged after recovery, the commission reported, adding that 2,943 people had died of the disease.

In South Korea, coronavirus cases rose further, with 477 new infections reported, largely in and around the southeastern city of Daegu, where many cases were clustered around a local church. In all, 4,812 in South Korea have tested positive for the virus. Total death toll stands at 28.
In Italy, the count of infected people continued rising to 2,036 and officials said it could take up to two weeks to know whether measures including quarantines in 11 northern towns were working.
The US count of COVID-19 cases surpassed 100 in 11 states with pharmaceutical executives discussing how to speed the search for a vaccine.
The virus has been detected in at least 70 countries with 90,000 cases and 3,100 deaths.
