Melbourne (Australia): Protests against the new citizenship Act and NRC reached overseas as the Indian diaspora staged demonstrations in Australia's Melbourne city.
The protest was led by Bharatpur Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Wajib Ali. Ali is a resident of Bharatpur's Mewat area and has his business in Australia.

Addressing the gathering, Ali said that the central government has misused the constitution.
"The BJP is doing vote bank politics. Its has rejected Muslims by bringing this Act but we believe in the constitution. Today the Muslim community is a minority in the country, but after this Act, now everyone has to give proof of their citizenship which is wrong," said Ali.
The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
